Reign in Life
Each believer receives the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness to reign in life through Jesus Christ (Romans 5:17). We are called to reign in life over our souls—our minds, wills, and emotions.
The "old man" follows the default settings of the first Adam, rooted in self-preservation with worry, anxiety, fear, loss, defensiveness, and striving as the fruit of sin. In Christ, however, our default setting is trust and peace. God will keep you in perfect peace when your mind is stayed on Him, because you trust in Him (Isaiah 26:3).
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6).
A mind set on God, rather than the things of this world, will be at peace. When your thoughts do not lean on your own understanding or abilities, and your mouth acknowledges the truths of Scripture, you will be directed by the Holy Spirit who lives inside of you.
These are the mighty weapons of our warfare for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).
In the desert, after forty days of prayer and fasting, Jesus used the Word to combat the devil and his lies, mischaracterization, and temptations (Matthew 4:3-10). So, it is today for each of us—we must use the Word as a mighty weapon, a sword to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. When we believe that the truth of Scripture will replace the thoughts and feelings in our mind, we are renewed and transformed into the image of Jesus.
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God (Romans 12:2).
So, start today—Choose the next thought, the next temptation, or the next moment of doubt, and take it captive by the Word of God in your mouth as you begin the journey of transforming your mind.
